What your degree or diploma means for your PGWP
| If you graduate with | PGWP length | Language level | Field rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Master's degree | 3 years (program of 8 months or more) | CLB 7 | None |
| Bachelor's or doctoral degree | Up to 3 years | CLB 7 | None |
| University certificate or diploma | Up to 3 years | CLB 7 | Eligible field needed |
| College or polytechnic diploma or certificate | Up to 3 years | CLB 5 | Eligible field needed |
| Program under 8 months, or language classes | No PGWP | Not needed | Not needed |
When a program lasts 2 years or more, "Up to 3 years" means a 3-year permit; a program of 8 months to under 2 years gets a permit as long as the program. You only face the field rule if your study permit application went in on or after 1 November 2024. A school with eligible programs can still have some that don't qualify, so check whether your field is on the list and how many years you could get.
